Why Am I Cravings This?

Here are a few steps to help you find out the reason behind your cravings.

Reason One

Acknowledgement-

Most time when craving arise we try an ignore them, which only leads to a more intense craving. So when that moment arise I want your to acknowledge it and I want you to say it out loud, I Am craving (x), ice cream, chips, a steak, moms apple pie or grandma chicken noodle soup and then I want you to hold right there.

Reason Two

Emotions-

Ask yourself: Is this craving attached to an emotion or physical feeling like: stress, feeling tired, low energy, feeling loneliness or just moments of boredom through out your day. So sorry to tell you this but food want solve your problems. It would be only treating the symptom or cause ( stress, boredom) a temporary fix, making this clear distinction can be a powerful experience, it allows you to pin point and treat the actual cause which can provide you with a more harmonious balance that your body has been seeking.

Our food cravings can tell us a lot when we choose to approach it from a nonjudgmental way we learn to tune in to our bodies and hear what it has to say.

When we are tired we tend to eat more. When sleep-deprived we tend to crave more snacks which increase our calories intake throughout the day.  At times of stress we tend to turn towards foods that are comforting to us like a safe-haven, this is just one way that stress leads to weight gain, as stressed out individual we also tend to reach for energy dense foods with less nutritious value in it. So if your feeling a bit on the stress side of things it might be helpful to pick up some activities that will help you manage stress like meditation.

Reason Three

Routine Habits-

Sometimes when cravings arise it is at a certain time or at a particular place because you have gotten use to your 3 clock snack now you’ve formed a habit and now you snack on automatic. But rather then giving in to mindless craving take a moment to tune in with yourself with mindfulness this will create the opportunity for you to distinguish between craving something out of routine or craving out of true hunger.

There are times where we fall off the nutrition band wagon like at a family get together, a cousins wedding, a out of town trip or a long awaited vacation. Have you notice after all the fun is over you find yourself wanting something a little more healthier to eat on, this is your bodies way of bringing everything back into balance.

There are times where fulfilling a craving is welcoming the kind that’s good for the soul something that goes beyond a nutritional stand point. Like enjoying a piece of pie among family and friends this experience can provide you with deep feeling of connectivity and love. This could be one of the most powerful forms of primary food nourishment, (Relationship).

Reason Four

Lack of Primary foods, un-fulfillment, lack of happiness, stress can all lead to emotional eating. Many use food to provide a relief or to gain some comfort, in this case food is being use as a source to fulfill areas of primary food that are not being satisfied.

Reason Five

Hydration, water can help reduce cravings, drinking a glass before can help you consume less during the meal. So drink more water.

Reason Six

Inside Coming Out, some craving are attached to a memory so we crave that food when we want to feel a sense of comfort, safety or to connect with our childhood. We also tend to crave thing we’ve recently eaten to re-create a positive experience we had.

Reason Seven

Seasonal, craving can also be associated with the seasons like summer we tend to crave fruit, winter time we want soup something hot, spring is leafy greens and fall we crave things from the root family like onions, nuts, squash.

Reason Eight

Last, and this is for the ladies we crave because of those Hormones especially around a woman’s cycle. Testosterone and Estrogen level may cause some out of the box cravings and stress has also been shown to mess with hormones in order to promote cravings.

So be on the watch for these things! 👀

Well like always I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post and learned some new things, I also hope this encourages you to reach out so we can work together to help you overcome and learn to be empowered through your cravings.
